5,289 cyber awareness programmes held across Gujarat

Gujarat police conducted 5,289 cybersecurity awareness programs across the state in the first two weeks of its 28-day special Operation Surakshit Cyberspace campaign aimed at ensuring safe use of online platforms by women and children.

The campaign focuses on cybercrime prevention through community engagement, technology-driven surveillance, victim outreach, cyber awareness and prompt legal action.

Additional Director General of Police (CID Women’s Crime Cell) Ajay Chaudhary said ensuring the online safety of women and children is a priority in the digital age. “Gujarat Police, through Operation Surakshit Cyberspace, is creating a safer digital environment by increasing awareness about cyber threats such as deepfakes and blackmail. Gujarat Police remains fully committed to the safety and security of every citizen,” he said.

According to police, 1,874 awareness and outreach programs were held in the first week; This was followed by 3,415 special sessions in the second week focusing on online threats such as sextortion, deepfakes and cyberstalking. The programs reached hundreds of thousands of citizens across the state.

During the first week, the campaign included 185 launch events on digital and physical security, 438 Cyber ​​Safety Day programs in schools and 336 awareness activities for adolescent girls as part of Kishori Diwas. Police also conducted 318 programs for parents, 281 training sessions for teachers, 207 awareness programs in universities and held 109 cybersecurity rallies in districts.

In the second week, Gujarat Police organized 4,172 thematic programs and public awareness camps. These include 743 programs on social media security, 578 deepfake awareness sessions, 514 cyberharassment prevention programs and 520 events within the scope of Sexual Shorts Prevention Day.

Police also conducted 512 gaming safety programmes, 466 online maintenance prevention sessions and 461 public awareness camps in remote areas.

Within the scope of the campaign, responsibilities were given to field officers, from police chiefs and superintendents to assistant inspectors, police sub-inspectors and police inspectors. Their performance is evaluated according to five parameters: awareness, prevention, enforcement, quality of investigation and public trust.

They asked citizens to immediately report cybercrime or online harassment by calling the National Cyber ​​Hotline in 1930 and filing a complaint.
