Boy, 16, charged with murdering mum and hurting sister in Bentley tragedy

A teenage boy who allegedly stabbed his mother to death and also stabbed his younger sister, who managed to escape to get help, has been charged with murder.

The 16-year-old was charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted unlawful killing on Wednesday after police attended a home in Bentley, south-east of Perth, on Tuesday morning.

The 35-year-old mother was found dead by police when they arrived at the family’s home.

The 12-year-old girl was also stabbed but managed to escape the house and go to a nearby highway for help.

Bystanders administered life-saving first aid to the girl and she was taken by ambulance to Perth Children’s Hospital, where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

WA Police Acting Superintendent Jessica Securo said the incident had shocked the community.

“This incident will have a significant impact on the family, friends and loved ones of everyone involved,” he said.

“Our thoughts are with all of them, especially the 12-year-old girl.”

The 16-year-old is expected to appear before Perth Children’s Court on Wednesday.
