‘Veterinary medicines’ found in milk sparks urgent supermarket recall

An urgent “do not consume” warning was issued to a popular milk brand due to concerns that it might be contaminated with penicillin.

Graham’s Family Dairy is recalling its semi-skimmed milk with an expiration date of July 31, 2026, due to a possible health risk. The warning applies to one-litre, two-litre and single-litre bottles sold in the UK.

People who purchased one of these products were told not to consume the product and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Food Standards Scotland says the reason for the recall is “the presence of veterinary medicines”.

The statement added: “The antibiotics in the product may make it unsafe to consume and pose a possible health risk to anyone allergic to antibiotics, including penicillin.”

Headquartered in Scotland, Graham’s Family Dairy is the country’s largest independent dairy company, with products including milk, butter, yoghurt and ice cream. It supplies most of the major supermarket chains in the UK.

The business apologized for the issue and assured customers that no other products were affected.

The statement said: “As Grahams Family Dairy, we believe that the quality of our products and the safety of our consumers are paramount.

“This is a precaution we are taking because milk contains traces of antibiotics and there is a small risk that it could cause a reaction in consumers with antibiotic allergies.

“Therefore, we ask our customers not to consume the following products and return them: Grahams Family Dairy one liter of semi-skimmed milk for use until 31 July, Grahams Family Dairy one liter of semi-skimmed milk for use until 31 July, Grahams Family Dairy two liters of semi-skimmed milk for use until 31 July.

“If you have purchased any of these products, please do not consume them, instead please return the milk to the store where you purchased it for a refund.

“We apologize for this issue and would like to reassure our customers that no other Grahams Family Dairies products or expiration dates will be affected.”
