Katy Perry fumes over White House’s use of her music amid romance with ex-politico Justin Trudeau
Katy Perry becomes the latest artist to oppose the Trump administration for using his music in social media videos.
Official White House this week TikTok account It posted a montage of missile strikes carried out by the US government and added the headline: ‘Iran warned.’
But the documented devastation was disturbingly soundtracked by Perry’s 2010 pop anthem Firework.
The Daily Mail has reached out to the White House and Perry for comment but has not yet received a response.
The singer issued a scathing statement to X in response and later reposted the note via Instagram Stories.
“I was deeply appalled and angered to see the @WhiteHouse TikTok account use the phrase ‘Fireworks’ as a prop for video footage of military strikes,” it began.

“I didn’t approve of it, I wasn’t asked about it, and I certainly don’t condone it,” the singer-songwriter said. ‘I wrote this song as an anthem of hope, healing and inner strength for people going through their darkest personal moments.
‘To see the message of self-worth and elevation weaponized to a soundtrack of destruction and violence is a complete violation of everything my song stands for. ‘My music is to bring people together, not to celebrate war.’
Perry’s anger comes after she sold the catalog rights to all of her music released through 2020 in a deal reportedly worth $225 million in 2023.
But the singer’s angry statement did not include any claim that the White House had the right to prevent him from using his music.
Perry has joined the list of pop artists speaking out against the government’s use of their music for political promotion.
In March, Kesha was outraged to learn that her music was being used in a TikTok to ‘incite violence and threaten war’.
On February 10, the 2010 song Blow was used in a video uploaded by the White House showing a military ship being hit by a missile. The post was titled ‘Lethality’.
“It has been brought to my attention that the White House has used one of my songs on TikTok to incite violence and threaten war,” Kesha wrote to X the following month.
Perry took to X to issue a scathing statement in response and later reposted the note via Instagram Stories.

‘Trying to make light of war is disgusting and inhumane. I absolutely DO NOT approve of my music being used to promote violence of any kind. Love always wins over hate. “Please love yourself and each other in times like these,” he added.
‘This blatant display of disregard for human life and, frankly, this attack on our entire nervous systems is the exact opposite of what I stand for.’
Last December, Sabrina Carpenter criticized the White House for its “disgusting” use of the Juno song in a TikTok post celebrating arrests by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Carpenter strongly condemned the move by sharing a message on the official White House X account.
‘This video is bad and disgusting. “Never involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane purposes,” he said.
Perry’s disdain for the Trump administration comes amid her romance with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, 54.
The couple first sparked dating rumors a year ago, and the music artist went Instagram official with his beau in December 2025.
They made their red carpet debut at the 25th Annual Tribeca Festival in June 2026 for the premiere of the concert film Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris.
He talked about his relationship at the event People: ‘I feel like a more grounded person in many areas of my life.
‘I’m so in love. And actually that show was after I met the love of my life and that’s why I felt so empowered because I look a bit like a rainbow kite.’
