Miami Marlins’ collapse back to mediocrity is so predictable you could set your watch to it

I want to take you on a journey to July 9th in Major League Baseball.

The Miami Marlins are ten games above .500 and are arguably the hottest team in baseball.

Their pitching looks dominant, they throw timely strikes with great baserunning, and their version of the home cookout at CreditDepot Park is breaking all kinds of team records.

Looks like nothing can slow down this freight train from South Florida.

But since then, the Marlins have lost 10 straight games and are falling further and further away from the playoff race as the calendar slides into August.

Who could have predicted this would happen?

For example, me.

I tried to warn people in both cases. beginning of season It’s right after the historic June that the Fightin’ Fish were one of the best teams to start the year, and it looks like they’ve put the rest of the league on notice.

What was once the team’s strength, the bullpen, is now blowing up games spectacularly, and that timely hitting and high-powered offense appears to be extinct at a time when most of the true contenders are starting to play top-flight baseball.

And I, along with many other die-hard Marlins fans, saw it coming a mile away.

This is nothing new in Little Havanna, as anyone who has been a fan since the beginning can attest.

We’ve had to endure fire sales, epic collapses, horrific injuries to MVP candidates, and even the death of a cornerstone of a bright, young team.

Nothing can truly surprise a Marlins fan at this point, so when people outside the borders of Dade County started singing the praises of the hometown team, true fans could only roll their eyes and wait for the other shoe to drop.

And he left!

If you want to know the exact moment when the universal karma turned in Miami’s favor, it’s probably when the aforementioned McCullough pulled star receiver Eury Perez in the middle of a perfect game bid.

Seven innings and just 92 pitches later, Perez stripped the ball, angering fans in Miami and beyond.

Of course, the Marlins would win the game and their losing streak wouldn’t begin for another four days, but that’s when the baseball gods decided that the Marlins would have to pay for their transgressions.

Good news? The Marlins are still just three games out of the Wild Card spot, and with the trade deadline looming, there’s still plenty of time to make some moves to right the ship and become a contender again.

But as any cynical Marlins fan will tell you, this would be a pointless endeavor; a prolongation of the inevitable.

Rooting in this team is a Sisyphean effort.

Hot starts and record-breaking Junes can excite you as much as you want, but the result is always the same.

Take off the Band-Aid and start getting excited for football season, because I personally predict that on an October day, the lights will be off at CreditDepot Park.
