Peter Moyes Anglican Community School: $15m expansion could pave the way for 200 extra students
Plans for a $15 million expansion of Peter Moyes Anglican Community School in Mindarie have been announced, which will see the school accommodate more than 200 additional students.
The private school has submitted a planning application to State planners to build a new building to house seven classrooms at the southern end of the school site.
The proposal also includes the refurbishment of the existing primary school building to increase its functionality and flexibility, including the introduction of modern learning spaces, specialist teaching areas and staff facilities.
The plans also seek to completely enclose the two existing outdoor hard pitches and add walls to the third hard pitch, which is already roofed, as well as making landscaping improvements across the site.
Peter Moyes Anglican Community School, known as AngliSchools, is owned and operated by the Anglican Schools Commission and is located on Elliston Parade in Mindarie.
The school opened in February 2000 and provides education from kindergarten to Grade 12.
PMACS currently has 1,441 students enrolled on campus and is approved to accommodate up to 1,600 students.
The proposed expansion would increase student capacity to 1659, supported by associated parking improvements proposed as part of a separate development application, including a new 76-bay car park on the north-west corner of the school site.
“The proposed development represents a logical and appropriate extension of an established educational facility that has served the local community for over 25 years,” town planners acting on behalf of AngliSchools said in the development application.
“The proposal responds to the continued population growth taking place in Perth’s northern corridor and will allow the school to accept additional students whilst improving the quality, functionality and year-round availability of existing facilities.”
A traffic impact assessment included in the development application said the surrounding road network could continue to operate at acceptable levels during busy periods despite the possible addition of 218 students.
The report found that the additional traffic created by the proposed increase in student capacity would be “modest” relative to the current operation of the school and the surrounding school district, which includes Mindarie Senior College and Quinns Baptist College.
Public consultation on the plans will be open through the City of Wanneroo until Thursday, July 30, before the Metro External Development Assessment Panel considers the application.
