4 Drown In Leisure Trip Tragedy At SRSP

NIZAMABAD: Four people, including a minor child, drowned in the backwaters of Sriramsagar Project (SRSP) on Sunday. A group of five people were visiting the area for a leisure trip when four of them were swept away by the strong current.

Police said, “The little boy fell into the water and was caught in the fast flowing current. Three young people in the group entered the water to save him, but he also drowned.”

According to preliminary information, the victims are 17-year-old Arhan, a resident of Bhokar in Nanded district of Maharashtra; Kaleem, 24; Ammu aka Najuwath, 24; and Azeem, 24, residents of Autonagar in Nizamabad. Nizamabad police commissioner Sai Chaitanya and a police team rushed to the spot. A joint rescue operation was launched by police, revenue officials, expert divers, NDRF and fire brigades.

While the bodies of three of the four victims were recovered, search efforts by expert divers and NDRF personnel continued to trace the fourth victim.

Nizamabad police have appealed to the public to avoid taking selfies, swimming or entering water near projects, backwaters, gullies, tanks and rivers during monsoon, warning that such places are “extremely dangerous”.

People were also urged to avoid entering areas of unknown depth and current and to strictly comply with safety instructions issued by the police and other departments.

MIM Nizamabad district president Fayazuddin visited the area and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.
