Weather Tomorrow, July 28: Rain alert for Maharashtra, Gujarat, UP, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Odisha, West Bengal & more; check IMD’s state-wise forecast
The forecast comes as the deep depression in the northwestern Bay of Bengal continues to affect weather conditions after crossing the West Bengal-northern Odisha coast, strengthening monsoon activity in most parts of the country.
Why is heavy rain expected?
According to IMD, the southwest monsoon continues to be active due to various weather systems currently affecting the region.
While the monsoon trough continued to remain south of its normal position, the deep depression that developed over northwestern Bay of Bengal moved inland after crossing the coasts of West Bengal and northern Odisha. Additional upper air cyclonic circulations over Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and the Arabian Sea are also expected to increase rainfall activity in various regions during the week.
Heavy rain expected in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh
While IMD has predicted widespread rainfall in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab between July 28 and July 31, heavy rainfall is expected in many places on July 28 and July 29.
While western Uttar Pradesh is likely to witness widespread rain from July 28 to August 2, eastern Uttar Pradesh is expected to receive significant rainfall on July 28 followed by additional rains later in the week.
Thunderstorms and strong winds are also expected to occur in some parts of the region.
Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir will receive heavy rainfall
The hill states are expected to remain under active monsoon conditions throughout the week.
According to IMD, widespread rainfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir till August 2, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected at isolated places.
The meteorological office warned that prolonged rainfall could increase the risk of landslides, flash floods and disruption to transport in sensitive hilly areas.
Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand under heavy rain watch
Eastern India is likely to continue receiving heavy rainfall even after the deep depression moves inland.
While the IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rains over the Ganges West Bengal and Jharkhand on July 28, Odisha is expected to remain under the influence of the weather system before the rains gradually decrease.
Thunderstorms and strong winds are also expected in the eastern parts of India.
Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are likely to witness intense monsoon activities
Heavy rains are expected to continue in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh throughout the week.
While eastern Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive heavy rain on July 28, Chhattisgarh is expected to receive continuous rainfall throughout the week and isolated areas are expected to experience very heavy showers.
Maharashtra and Gujarat will receive more rainfall
IMD predicts that monsoon activities will continue in Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat.
Heavy rains are expected in some parts of Gujarat on July 28 and July 29; Constant showers are expected in Konkan, Goa and Madhya Maharashtra in the coming days.
Very heavy rains may occur in some districts, especially in coastal areas.
Heavy rain expected in southern states
Rainfall activity is also expected to remain active in south India.
Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and parts of Karnataka are expected to receive widespread rainfall in the next few days.
While heavy rainfall is expected for Kerala and Coastal Karnataka, thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are expected in Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Thunderstorms and high winds are expected in many states
In addition to heavy rains, IMD has warned of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in many parts of the country.
Wind speeds are likely to be between 40 and 60 km per hour in parts of eastern and southern India, while isolated areas may experience stronger winds during storms.
Residents are advised to stay indoors during lightning strikes, avoid flooded roads and follow updates issued by local authorities.
Hot and humid conditions will continue in some parts of Andhra Pradesh
While most parts of the country are expected to receive rain, IMD said hot and humid weather will continue in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on July 28 despite ongoing monsoon activities elsewhere.
IMD advises caution
With heavy rainfall forecast in many states from Tuesday, July 28, IMD has advised residents to follow the latest weather bulletins and adhere to instructions issued by local governments. People living in areas prone to floods and landslides should be careful as continuous rains negatively affect transportation and daily life in many regions.
