Eric Bieniemy son jailed for shooting his mother while Kansas City Chiefs coach is away at training camp

The son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been arrested for allegedly shooting his mother and his coach’s wife multiple times at the couple’s home in Virginia.
According to a press release from the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Elijah Zion Bieniemy was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in a felony and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling.
The statement states that an adult, possibly named Mia Bieniemy, suffered “multiple gunshot wounds.”
Eric Bieniemy was with the Chiefs in Missouri at the time.
A source confirmed to Fox News Digital that Mia Bieniemy, 57, was hospitalized overnight.

“The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” Chiefs said in a statement. “Out of respect for their privacy, we will not be making a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Police arrived at a home in the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn, Virginia, on Sunday evening and arrested Bieniemy, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Leah Pau said Monday. He was transported to the Loudon County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
Police investigation continues.
Eric Bieniemy is expected to request temporary leave from the team to care for his wife and family, an NFL source said.
The Chiefs welcome their coaches, rookies and quarterbacks to St. Louis on Friday on the campus of Missouri Western State. Joseph sent him to camp in Missouri. Veteran players will report on Tuesday.

Bieniemy, 56, returned to the Chiefs this year as offensive coordinator after spending time with the Washington Commanders, Chicago Bears and UCLA’s football program.

As offensive coordinator in Kansas City from 2018-22, Bieniemy led one of the league’s most productive offenses:

- Mahomes threw for over 5,000 yards in both of his MVP seasons.
- The Chiefs have finished first in the NFL in scoring in multiple seasons.
- Travis Kelce While becoming the NFL’s first receiving tight end, Tyreek Hill has developed into one of the most explosive quarterbacks in football.
And the Chiefs won two Super Bowls.

“Yeah, I’m excited to have him back,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said of Bieniemy’s return to the NFL Combine in February. “When you lose Matt Nagy, bringing in someone who can step in and go, that’s not an easy thing to do. He brings a great energy.
“He loves doing what he does. All he wants to do is win football games and run a great offense. He’s a total team guy.”
