Podcaster Joe Rogan warned liberals on Tuesday that moving to Texas and turning the state blue would upset the delicate balance for everyone, including liberal Texans.
“Liberals who want to turn Texas blue. Don’t, you’ll ruin it,” he said.
Rogan has spoken repeatedly about his choice to leave California because of its far-left policies, particularly the Covid-19 pandemic.
He complained that many “coastal elites” and “coastal snobs” often have the idea that “Texas is full of rednecks, ignorant people and stupid people. It’s not like that at all. Especially Austin. Austin is like one of the most liberal, laid-back, progressive cities, but even the progressives here are like them, more reasonable.”

He noted that liberal Texans, although they have moved somewhat to the left in recent years, are nowhere near the same far-left positions as those in Los Angeles or New York.
“There’s a saying about Austin: ‘Keep Austin Weird and Around,’” Rogan said.
His guest, adventurer and author Forrest Galante, asked, “And besieged? What is ‘and besieged’?” he asked.
“He’s surrounded by red people,” Rogan explained. “It’s like everything around you is red, and at the center of that red situation is this blue area. I think that’s good for everyone. I think that’s good. It’s a balance.”
Rogan warned against liberals fleeing far-left blue states only to vote for the same far-left policies in red states. He illustrated the delicate political balance by comparing it to a natural ecosystem.
“You’ll ruin it for yourself, too. You don’t understand,” he said. “Balance is important. It’s like: You can’t kill all the predators because then the deer get invaded and you hit them with cars. And you can’t kill all the deer because then there’s no food. That’s what they did when they were hunting for markets. Balance. And you need balance with people, too.”
“The Austin balance is a great balance,” Rogan continued. “This is a liberal city surrounded by tough Republicans with guns and tigers.”

In 2023, Rogan stated that he had the idea of leaving California amid the riots in 2020 following the death of George Floyd, who lived in Minneapolis, and said, “I said, ‘This is not going in a good direction and I smell chaos.'”
He then touched on numerous policies in California; far-left approach to crime and homelessness to the point that stores have to lock up merchandise: “It’s absolute madness. There are so many businesses that are closing, they don’t want any part of it anymore.”
“I don’t like not seeing any course correction, I don’t see any realignment of, ‘Hey, we need to take care of disenfranchised people, but we also need to keep our streets safe and we need to stop crime,'” Rogan continued.
He added: “None of that, more ridiculous laws, laxer on crime, more money for the homeless ‘Give them free drugs, give them needles, they need clean needles’, like what?”
He recently criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom for his defense of California, warning instead that Los Angeles could go the way of Detroit as the film industry collapses and companies flee the state.
