Google offers to modify policy on gaming apps to avoid CCI probe

Google LLC suggested to change its policies to hosting applications in the Real Money Game Store (RMG) in the Play Store in India, and aimed to avoid an antitröst investigation by the Indian Competition Commission (CCI). The regulator is now inviting public comments about the proposal of the technology giant.
The proposal comes after CCI launched an investigation based on the complaint of Winzo Games, a skill -based RMG platform in November 2024. At that time, the guard claimed that Google may have violated the laws of India by choosing only two types of games (every day fantasy sports (DFS) and Greek) under a selective pilot program while keeping other skill -based games away from the platform.
A wider correction for a narrower pilot
In accordance with the new “game commitment proposal”, Google agreed to scrape the limited pilot and allow the developers to allow real money games based on Indian laws and all skills permitted under the case -law. After the Commission has approved the proposal, these applications will be allowed to distribute in the game store in India.
After the proposal was approved, Google said it would apply the change within 120 days.
“Google will change all real money games that are announced by the developers to be distributed as permitted online real money games on Google Play in India, in Google Play, the current pilot program,” CCI said.
Google, the proposal in its name and the parent company Alphabet Inc. and presented it on behalf of other parties, including two Indian participants. The proposal was made under a CCI mechanism that allowed companies under investigation to voluntarily correct their behavior and avoid the case.
Advertising policy is also under the browser
CCI also marked Google’s advertising policy that has previously allowed promotions for DFS and Greek. In response, Google offered to review the advertising policy and opened the door to advertise all skill games.
In a statement MintA Google spokesman said:
“CCI is pleased to test our proposed framework for real money games in India. This development reflects our constructive debates with the CCI and Indian developer community and our commitment to create a more open and safe ecosystem.”
The queries sent to Winzo on Wednesday remained unanswered during publishing to search for comments for the story. CCI will accept comments until August 20th.
