Plan to turn off traditional TV services slammed as ‘folly’ | Politics | News

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy showed that new data watched more than the old audiences than ever before. The government is expected to rely on online flow services instead. The major transition can come in 2034 and supported by BBC General Manager Tim Davie.

However, a new report of Watchdog Ofcom shows that young audiences watch more online services than ever, while watching traditional television over 75s. Campaigns say that the end of terrestrial broadcasts can create a epidemic of loneliness among the elderly of England and rob them from a vital reliable news source.

Silver Voices Director Dennis Reed said that traditional television helps to bring the country together during major activities such as the victory of the UK’s UEFA Women’s Championship.

He said: “Broadcast TV support is growing among the old audiences and will remain durable for decades.

“Even young audiences have a longing for common publication experiences, such as the victory of the last female lions.

“As the public gets tired of getting their news and entertainment from the impressives who will say something for extra clicks, the flow experience will be plateau in the next few years.

“It would be at the highest level to scrape the reliable and reliable terrestrial TV system and to commit suicide to continue the BBC’s internet television campaign only.”

Ofcom’s Annual Media Countries Report “75 years and older adults watched an average of 5 hours and 41 minutes of broadcasting television in 2024, an increase of 3% since 2023 and a 1% increase between 2022 and 2023”.

And the traditional TV shows that the content monitored by people between the ages of 65-74 and more than 90 percent of the content monitored by viewers aged 75 years and older.

In addition, nine out of ten people older than 75 years of age are watching news on TV.

In the meantime, the most popular flow services are 68 percent of the UK households with flow services such as Plato and Netflix of Amazon Prime – as in 2021.

However, 35 -year -old people spend more time watching more videos than traditional TV.

The current legislation means that the terrestrial TV is safe until 2034, but the government organizes a consultation as to whether it will be terminated after that and whether it is known as internet protocol or IP services.

BBC boss, Mr. Davie, said in his speech in May: “Now we think it is time to confirm an IP transition in the 2030s, to reveal the conditions and to ensure success.”

MPs were preparing to discuss this issue in Westminster Hall, led by Conservative Deputy David Mundell on 4 September, and asked for protection of the terrestrial TV to the 2040s.
