US forces launched attacks on Iranian targets shortly before the United States resumed its naval blockade of Iranian ports in and around the Strait of Hormuz, US Central Command said on Tuesday.
The latest round of strikes, aimed at “reducing Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” in the economically vital strait, began at 3 p.m. ET, CENTCOM said in an X dispatch.
The naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman will resume at 16:00.
The blockade was lifted after the United States and Iran reached a temporary ceasefire agreement last month. But President Donald Trump last week declared the ceasefire “over” after multiple flare-ups of hostilities in the region, with each side accusing the other of violating terms of the agreement.
