Family of Jaipur man abducted in Mali seeks PM’s intervention to secure release

A cement industry consultant family from Jaipur, who was kidnapped in Mali, the West African country last month, provided the release of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday, August 4, 2025. The family struggling with uncertainty has not received any information about where it was.

61-year-old Prakash Chandra Joshi was among the three Indian citizens kidnapped by the suspected terrorists who were affiliated with Jamaat Nusrat al-Islamlimeen (JNIM) in the Kayes region of Mali.

Mr. Joshi’s daughter Chitra Joshi said at a press conference that although he approached the Family Foreign Ministry, the Indian Embassy in Bamako, the capital of Mali, and other officials, he did not receive any “convincing response .. “We have no information about the position or the demands of the kidnappers,” he said.

“The factory officials initially informed us about the attack on July 1st. Since then, nothing has been said about factory, Embassy or Mea’s ransom or negotiations,” Joshi said. The other two kidnapped people belong to TaLangana and Odisha.

Ms. Joshi asked the Union government to regularly update the three families about the situation and to communicate with them. “We are completely dark in any concrete action … Every day we are increasing our anxiety and helplessness,” he said.

Ms. Joshi, accompanied by her mother Suman, emphasized humanitarian anxiety by saying that her father needs regular medicines and a solid vegetarian. He said that Mr. Joshi had previously worked in the Middle East and Africa for several years, but there was nothing that foreign nationals could target Mali’s internal armed conflict.

Since then, the family has approached the parliamentary members from Rajasthan and state officials looking for interventions on this issue. Jaipur rural deputy Rao Rajendra Singh, who helped the family and directed to Mea, supported and remained in contact.

Following the incident, MEA identified the kidnapped individuals and said that the ministry’s senior officials closely monitored the developing situation and remained at various levels to facilitate the safe and early release of Indian citizens. Mea also said that the Indian Embassy in Bamako is in constant contact with local authorities and security agencies.
