But here is the truth that stands out: Multiculturalism is not what keeps our nation behind; This is the repulsive countries like Australia and Canada. The countries that reject him – like Japan – are now struggling with demographic and economic stagnation. Most Europe is in the same way.
Today, rejecting multiculturalism is not only narrow -minded, but also deliberate denial. It now adheres to an old worldview that no longer reflects the vivid and various reality of Modern Australia. Multiculturalism is no longer something we politely accept or reluctantly tolerate. Who is at the center of who we are. It shaped our arts, informs national speeches and gradually defines the future of countries such as Australia, Norway, Switzerland, England and Canada.
When researching my book, this became particularly clear for me, Rooted. This project was born from the desire to document the stories of those who were forced to escape from their homeland, who continued to develop in their new countries. My focus is the Sri Lankalı Tamil Diaspora, who has been dismantled from the root with decades of conflicts and scattered in the continents since the 1950s. Despite trauma and dislocations, many not only rebuilt their lives, but also develop. They integrated, contributed and helped to redefine what it means.

The future is not monocultural. Various, dynamic and already here. It’s time to capture our thoughts.
