Measles warning after Bali traveller returns to Adelaide with highly infectious disease

A man was diagnosed with measles after having a holiday in Bali, and asked the authorities to warn the authorities about a possible spread of very infectious infection.

The measles are quite infectious and can spread through droplets in the air.

SA Health warns that those who are not fully vaccinated and especially in the following places are vigilant for symptoms within the next few weeks:

  • Kings Park Clinic, 309 Goodwood RD, Kings Park on August 7, 12.30 – 13:15;
  • Adelaide Airport is 13: 30-22: 30 on August 5;
  • On August 5, the JQ499 flight from Gold Coast to Adelaide left at 11 o’clock;
  • On August 5, the JQ498 flight from Adelaide to Gold Coast left at 7.30;
  • Adelaide Airport 06: 00-17: 00 on August 5;
  • Adelaide Airport between 18: 00-17: 00 on August 4;
  • On August 4, the JQ126 flight from Denpasar to Adelaide left at 11.35;
  • On August 3, the JQ125 flight from Adelaide to Denpasar was left at 6.15; And
  • Adelaide Airport from 4.45 am to 6.15 in the morning on August 3.

Symptoms start with fever, cough, nose and painful eyes, then follow a stained rash that usually start from the head and then spread the body.

People should take a look at a doctor if they get sick, but first call to take precautions to prevent the spread of the disease to others.

This is the fourth measles in South Australia this year. A total of six cases were recorded last year.

In the last six months, there has been an increase in measles cases reported in Australia, mostly between people traveling abroad.
