Bankstown bishop Anthony Randazzo appointed to Dicastery for Legislative Texts at the Vatican
An Australian bishop has been appointed to a powerful post at the Vatican in Rome.

Archbishop Randazzo has led the Diocese of Broken Bay as bishop for the past six and a half years and will assume his new role when he moves to the Vatican in three months.
He was born in Sydney to Italian immigrants who ran a fruit and vegetable shop in Bankstown, then moved to the Gold Coast in the late 1960s.
He was ordained a priest in Brisbane in 1991.
“I am deeply grateful to Pope Leo for the trust and confidence he has placed in me,” Archbishop Randazzo said.
“During my time as bishop of the Diocese of Broken Bay, the clergy and faithful have been a true source of joy in my diocesan ministry.
“It has also been both a privilege and a joy to walk the journey of faith with the Ordinariat of Our Lady of the Southern Cross in Australia, an experience that embodies the reality of lived ecumenism.”
The Dicastery of Legislative Texts serves the Roman Pontiff in promoting and protecting the correct understanding, interpretation, and application of canon law throughout the Church.
Its responsibilities extend to the Latin and Eastern Catholic Churches and ensure the clear and precise application of laws.
The archbishop studied canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University and worked at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome.
He met Pope Leo XIV in Rome after being stranded in Dubai with hundreds of others due to conflict in the Middle East.
