Putin backed Ukraine security protections at summit: US

The US ambassador Steve Witkoff said that Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to allow Ukraine to allow a security guarantee as part of a final agreement to end the war at the summit of US President Donald Trump.
“We were able to win the following privilege: the US can offer protection -like protection, which is one of the real reasons why Ukraine wants to be in NATO.”
Witkoff said Putin had heard it for the first time that he had accepted it.
Speaking at a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Ukrainian President Ursula von Der Leyen, “We welcome the willingness of President Trump to contribute to Article 5 -like security guarantees for Ukraine.
Witkoff, who presented some of the first details of those discussed at the summit of Friday in Alaska, said that the two sides accepted the “sound security guarantees that I will define as a game change”.
The authority said Russia would not go after any additional regions in Ukraine would be a legislative commitment.
Zelenskiy thanked the United States for the latest signals that he was willing to support security guarantees for Ukraine, but the details remained uncertain.
“It is important that America accepts to work with Europe to provide security guarantees for Ukraine,” he said, “However, how this will work and what the role of America will be, what will be the role of Europe, and what will do, and this main task, we need security for implementation such as NATO’s 5th and we think that the EU’s security guarantee is a part of the security guarantee.”
Witkoff defended Trump’s decision to abandon Russia’s immediate pressure to accept the ceasefire, and said that the president was moving towards a peace agreement to end the three -and -a -half -year war because too much progress was made.
“We have discussed all other problems for the peace agreement,” Witkoff said. He said.
“We started to see a little moderate as they think of reaching a final peace agreement,” he said.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio insisted that Trump would have “additional results” as Trump warned before meeting with Putin if they could not reach a ceasefire.
However, Rubio said there would be no agreement on a ceasefire when Ukrainian negotiations are not in negotiations.
“Now, ultimately, if there is no peace agreement, if the end of the war, the president was open: the results will be.” He said.
“But we’re trying to avoid this. And the way we’re trying to avoid these consequences is a better result, peace, the end of hostility.”
He also said, “We are not on the abyss of a peace agreement” and it would not be easy to reach there and that he would get a lot of work.
“We have made progress in the sense that we have identified potential agreements, but there are some great disagreements. So there is still a long way.” He said.
Zelenskiy and European leaders are planned to meet with Trump at the White House on Monday.
After meeting with Putin, they received news from the president.
Witkoff, “I think everyone agreed that we have made progress. Maybe not enough for a peace agreement, but the first time we are on the road.” He said.
The authority added: “The main issue, which is a kind of land excretion that cannot be discussed with Putin at this meeting, was ultimately under the control of Ukrainians – could not be discussed.”
He continued: “We are planning to discuss this on Monday. I hope there is a little clarity on it and I hope that, very soon makes a peace agreement.”
