iiNet targeted in cyber incident, 280,000 customers exposed

IINET, the second largest internet services provider in Australia, is investigating a cyber attack that reveals 280,000 customers’ e-mail address.
TPG Telecom, the main company listed by IINET, said that he was investigating cyber incident with unauthorized access to an old management system.
TPG joined the external IT and cyber security experts to help with his response. The “Unknown Third Part of Unknown” was removed from IINET’s system on Saturday.
According to the market this morning, the TPG said that approximately 280,000 active E -mail address and approximately 20,000 active fixed phone numbers were taken from the IInet system.
In addition, approximately 10,000 IINET usernames, street addresses and telephone numbers in the hacking plus 1,7000 modem installation password were accessed.
The TPG confirmed that the formed system does not contain passports, driver licenses, credit cards or banking information details.
The second largest internet provider in the country behind Telstra said that early investigations have gained access using an employee’s stolen account identity information.
“We apologize to our customers who are affected by this incident,” he said.
Iz We will take steps immediately to communicate with the affected IINET customers, to recommend all kinds of action they need to do, and to provide our help.
“We will also contact all IINET customers who are not affected to confirm that they are not affected.”
Counting Vodaphone, Lebara and Felix Mobile under the umbrella, TPG said that there is currently no evidence to suggest a wider systems or other customers.
TPG, Australian Cyber Security Center, National Cyber Security Office and other government offices were informed about the incident, he said.
For the first time, the Internet Services Provider did not report a cyber event, IINET and Westnet up to 15,000 violated customers in 2022.
