NHRC issues notice to Punjab government over assault of a journalist by two police officers

On Monday, August 18, 2025, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notification to the Punjab government by two police officers in the Batala region of the Gurdaspur region.

In a video closure of the incident that took place on August 1, the victim can be seen as the victim’s still as the police staff attacked him.

The defendant police officers were deployed to Batala for the security duty. The journalist reportedly asked questions about their assets that angered them and caused their attack.

Observing that the issue has raised serious issues that violates human rights, the Commission issued a notification to the Police General Manager who called on a detailed report on the issue within two weeks. The report is expected to include the status of the investigation and the health of the victim journalist.
