Gardener delighted as rare plant flowers after 25 years

An amateur gardener, giant, rare plant finally was satisfied after blooming 25 years later – although he knew he would die soon. 78 -year -old Tony Kennington said that he and his 76 -year -old wife Padrica were only 45 cm (18 inch) in 2000. For more than 25 years, the giant plant has grew 6m (20FT) and bright yellow flowers grew in early this year. Agave American is also known as Century factory, because it can take up to 100 years to produce flowers. However, he always died after their blooming. “I knew that this plant would bloom one day,” Mr. Kennington of Hartford, near Huntingdon in Cambs, said. But I thought ‘Would I ever see?’ And I have me. “Instead of gluing it to another pot, I thought I would stick it to the ground.” Five years later, we decided to build an extension and dug a clay hole with a mini excavator and put it into the hole. “I probably thought you’d die, but at least I’ll give you a chance. It has developed.” For the next decade, Tony said that Agave American had grown like crazy ‘and made a frame and roof to go to the summit. He said: “In May, everything looked a little strange. There were thinner leaves in the center.” Suddenly, the flower increased to me, and I had to quickly remove the roof. “A few inchs were growing a day.” It looked like an increase for a while, and then the arms began to open. “Flowers began to emerge and begin to open. Two -thirds of the road to the summit.” Plant species are specific to Mexico and the United States, especially to Texas – but it is less known in suburban areas in the UK. The plant dies after blooming, but the adventurous shoots – or base ‘buds’ from the base that allows the growth to continue. Tony said: “I have a lot of little children, so I will have something else to live.” In the last decade, we have only one bad frost and I’m sure global warming has contributed to it. “If you have yourself, do not assume that you do not need irrigation.” Mine is never insufficient in the summer and loves it. “
