Seagull attacks New Zealand journalist, cuts eyelid during filming

New Zealand journalist Jess Tyson was shocked when a bird flew into her face while filming a news segment.

Tyson, who works for the “Te Ao with Moana” program on New Zealand’s Whakaata Māori channel, shared a video clip of himself. on Facebook A few weeks ago I reported on “fast fashion” in New Zealand. When he was about to take another shot, a seagull suddenly flew into his face.

According to his post, the bird appeared to be unharmed as it was taken to a nearby corporate office for treatment. In another photo he shared, he appears to have a bloody cut on his right eyelid, but is otherwise fine.

“POV: I’m just trying to do my job but nature has other plans,” Tyson wrote in the video’s text.

Tyson later spoke about the incident NBC’s “Today” show He said Friday was the first time something like this had happened while he was at work.

“I was so focused on getting my lines right before this happened that it was such a shock when the bird hit me!” Tyson said. “The blow itself was very surprising and it felt like a heavy pillow was hitting my face. Then a minute later I started bleeding.”

Tyson told TODAY he returned to filming shortly after receiving treatment.

“I didn’t have to continue, but I decided to continue because I wasn’t happy with my first takes,” said Tyson.

He added that his team was mostly happy to be able to “show evidence” of the incident and take this moment in stride for the most part.
