Alligator Alcatraz Immigrant Detention Camp in Everglades May Be Emptied

(Bloomberg) – The detention camp in Everglades, known as Crocodile Alcatraz, is evacuated only two months after Hundreds of Millions of Dollars to help Florida Governor Ron Desantis’s President Donald Trump’s plan to deported millions of immigrants.

The videos published on Social media on Wednesday showed that buses under the camp set out for Miami, Miami, and confirmed that the Ministry of Internal Security has carried people to other facilities. The US Regional Court judge Kathleen Williams ordered the dismantling of the camp within 60 days last week and found that it was built without an appropriate environmental examination.

Florida Emergency Management Executive Director Kevin Guthrie, according to a copy of the message seen by Bloomberg, August 22 in the Everglades camp in the Everglades camp, “probably we will fall to 0 people in a few days,” he said. Guthrie, who ruled the camp, responded to Miami Beach Rabbi Mario Rojzman’s request for the clergy to allow the detainees to look at the detainees.

For weeks, lawyers and MPs reported a decrease in the number of immigrants held in the expanding tents and trailer collection built to keep about 3,000 people. Trump management officials described the facility as a template to rapidly expand the capacity to lock immigrants throughout the country. The camp was national importance on the day it was opened on July 1, when Trump’s last -minute visit.

Desantis made a camp built on a less used airport surrounded by crocodiles and mosquitoes, a showcase of Trump’s search for a high -profile role in immigration pressures.

This came at a high cost. Desantis was built in just eight days by using a bending contract of at least $ 330 million to build and operate temporary housing and other services after emergency powers and hurricanes.

A State Emergency Management official said that in a court file, the state has spent $ 218 million in the Everglades camp since the end of August. The dismantling of Crocodile Alcatraz can cost more than millions of dollars.

The government appealed Williams’ decision. On Wednesday, Williams rejected a government’s request to remove the temporary order of a government, considering the appeal.

Tania Galloni, one of the lawyers who sued the government in the camp, said, “Now the question, ‘Is there really this need?’ He said, “The concept of $ 330 million so far. This does not take the mind. ”

Speaking to journalists in Orlando on Wednesday, Desantis said that he continued with plans to set up a detention camp operated by a second state in North Florida and to look at other places to help Federal officials lock immigrants. “We are here to be a power multiplier and we will continue to do it,” he said.

One spokesman said DHS carried prisoners to other facilities from the Everglades camp to comply with the order of the court to eliminate the operations of the court. The Agency has focused on the “mass deportation authority of the illegal illegal aliens of the American people”.

The camp became a magnet for the national opposition of Trump’s aggressive immigration pressure, and drew protesters such as prisoners, mosquitoes, lack of access to lawyers for heat and floods.

Guthrie’s spokesman Stephanie Hartman referred to Desantis’ statements when a comment was requested. Rojzman confirmed the content and originality of Guthrie’s e -mail.
