Ultra-processed foods linked to lower sperm motility in new study
Calorie most comes from ultra -processed foods
The authors of the new study refused to look at the effect of these foods on reproductive health, because the consumption of ultra -processed foods in men around the world has rapidly increased.

In Western countries, ultra-processed foods are an increasingly percentage of general calories consumed by children and adults. A recent study, approximately 55 percent, about 55 percent. These foods are made up of sausage sandwich, non -alcoholic beverages, potato chips, sweetened breakfast cereals and packaged snacks. Unlike all foods such as fruits, vegetables, fresh meats, whole wheat cereals, hazelnuts and seeds, ultra -processed foods are mostly industrial formulations containing many additives, including salt, sugar, fat, protective, emulsifer and synthetic components.
These foods typically contain too many refined grains and flour, and often lack nutrients that promote health such as fiber. This makes them less nutritious but cheaper and more stable.
How was the study
The researchers hired 43 relatively healthy men between the ages of 20 and 35 and divided them into groups.

A group was assigned to separate the diet of great ultra -processed foods for three weeks, and the diet of unrelated foods for three weeks, with a three -month “washing” period when they returned to eat their usual diet. The researchers gave all their meals.
Another group of male groups has been appointed to do something very similar, but in this case, ultra -processed and unprocessed diets are designed to be high in calories. The researchers provided them with 500 more calories a day, as they needed them.
For each branch of the study, the researchers designed two diets to contain equivalent amounts of calories, proteins, carbohydrates and fats. This could see if the ultra -processing scope had any health effect separately from the effect of calories and certain macrobes.
What did the work find?
- Compared to the time they eat unprocessed diets, men won an average of 1.4kg and 1 kg body oil when they are appointed to eat ultra -processed diets.
- When men ate high -calorie, ultra -processed diet, there were lower follicle stimulating hormones or FSH levels, a hormone that plays a critical role in male fertility produced in the brain. FSH stimulates the production of sperm and helps to regulate the testicular function.
- Researchers found tendencies towards lower testosterone levels when men eat normal calorie, ultra -processed diet, and a decrease in sperm mobility when they eat high -calorie, ultra -processed diet.
- In another trend, Men who ate ultra -processed diets had a chemical level called Cxminp, a type of ftalat added to food packaging and other plastics to make it more flexible, soft and flexible. Falates are known as endocrine decayers, because they can cause hormonal changes in the body and cause health problems. Barrès says that the accumulation of falalate in the body may be a reason for ultra -processed foods cause eating to cause weight gain and changes in sex hormones.
- Men had a higher amount of lithium in their blood and seminaric fluids when they ate unprocessed diets. Researchers said it is a good thing because it helps to regulate the mood of the lithium, and is often prescribed to treat mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder.
- Mostly, there were some negativities to eat the diet of unrelated foods. Men had a higher level of mercury levels when researchers ate unprocessed diets because they consumed more tuna and other seafood. At the same time, when men eaten unprocessed diets, they accumulated periyfluoroalkilkil substances or two “chemicals” at higher levels, also known as PFA. Researchers, this, the food they eat in PFA’ler non -stick pots and pans were cooked and prepared to prepare, he said.
What are men ate
Although ultra -processed and unprocessed diets were paired with calories and macrobes, they could not look different.

Focus on the quality of what you eat
Barrès says a remarkable difference between diets, ultra -processed dishes contain much less fiber, which is very common in ultra -processed foods. This makes them chewing them and gives them a longer shelf life. But it also means that we eat them faster, enter our intestines much faster and absorb them faster. Studies have found that people absorb more calories than ultra -processed foods. They tend to cause larger blood sugar and insulin pointed ends that can contribute to unrelated foods and weight gain.
Barrès said that the findings of the study caused him and his family to eat less ultra -processed foods. For most people, it is not practical to avoid all ultra -processed foods, because they are very appropriate and accessible. However, he recommends that people start thinking differently about the food they eat.
“What we find is that perhaps the amount is not as important as food quality.”
