Trump ends security protection for former Vice President Harris, senior White House official says

Washington (Reuters) -US President Donald Trump canceled the secret service protection for the former vice president, and 2024 democratic rival Kamala Harris said in a statement on Friday.

The former vice president typically receives six -month secret service protection after leaving the post.

Harris’ protection, last January before leaving the task by President Joe Biden until January 2026 was extended up to a year, he said.

In September, Harris will go on a 15 -city book tour for the “107 days” memory about the unsuccessful presidential race. Biden was a democratic candidate for 107 days after he withdrew from the race in weeks following a disaster against Trump. Trump continued to defeat Harris.

Authorized, Harris, a Thursday, said that the end of additional security was valid on 1 September.

Harris’s Senior Advisor Kirsten Allen, said in response to the movement: “Vice President, professionalism, devotion and safety for unshakable commitments to the US secret service.” He said.

Harris lost the 2024 presidential elections to Trump, but did not exclude a possible presidential proposal in 2028. On July 30, 2026 announced that he would not run for the governor of California.

Trump also ended federal security protection for others, including former National Security Advisor John Bolton. In March, Biden’s children ended the protection for Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden.
