Punjab’s Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb described it as “the greatest flood in the history of Punjab”, stressed that they have never seen water levels before the three major rivers, Chenab and Ravi. The situation also created concerns of a food crisis, considering the floods in 2022, and Punjab is a large agricultural belt.
Deaths and damage continues to rise throughout the country
The monsoon season was particularly harsh this year, the national air center Punjab had 26.5% more rainfall between July 1 and 27 August.
