‘I wish they wouldn’t call it the tea time slot’

Music reporter

“Did you know I could run 100 meters in 19 seconds?”
Rod Stewart, Dear Rod Stewart boasts for his physical abilities. And why not?
At the age of 80, he still travels around the world, plays shows, records new music, and even writes a book about the beloved model train set.
This weekend, Glastonbury’s pyramid scene will play greedy “legends” home … Although not 100% happy with the old ceiling tile bill.
“I wish they just didn’t say tea time interval,” he complains.
“This sounds like pipes and slippers, right?”
He also convinced the organizers to extend the set and initially provided a nest for one and a half hours after 75 minutes.
“I usually do better than two hours, so there are a series of songs that we still can’t do, or he says.
“But we are working on. I will not make any announcements between the songs. I will make a number, I will shout ‘next’ and enter the next one.
“I will do my best.”

It doesn’t seem to have no choice. I have recently told you that he re -invented as a croner on songs such as Do Do Ya Sexy and Downtown Train, from early hits with faces such as Sir Rod, Me and Ooh La la la to the solo breakthrough.
The last time he played Glastonbury, he was seen as an interloper in 2002 – he was sitting strangely on the bill, such as white lines, Coldplay and orbit.
At first, he said, “The musician, who looks at the” taking herself very seriously, “crowded crowded.”
However, a unique set list of Singalongs won them. At the end of the night, 100,000 people were swinging on time to sail as if they were really tied to the rising tides of the Atlantic.
Surprisingly, Rod has no memory.
“I don’t remember anything,” he confesses. “I have a lot of concerts, they’re all coming together.”
Still, a certain show stands out. In 1994, Sir Rod played a free concert at the Copacabana Beach of Brazil and attracted a crowd of more than three million people.
But it wasn’t a record -breaking audience that made it unforgettable.
“I got sick about an hour before I had to continue,” he confesses.
“I ate something terrible and I was going to the toilet,” Huerrrgurkurkbleagggg “
“I didn’t think I was going to do that, but fortunately they have a doctor to solve me.”

From Ed Sheeran to U2, we talk to the star about a month before Picadilly, a comfortable, former booker, a comfortable, former booker, just outside the circus.
Nevertheless, a little early for a drink, so Sir Rod orders a venti coffee, and removes an extreme assistant trying to mix the sugar.
Wearing a creamy jacket and black jeans, the box sits on the ankle to show fresh zebra striped trainers. White shirt, beloved football club Celtic’s top with a diamond -coated necklace knotted enough to exhibit.
And then there is hair. So famous, he won an entire episode in the singer’s autobiography that a blended blonde view of windy pointed ends.
Steve Marriott, one of the small faces, claimed that Sir Rod had obtained Barnet, who challenged this earth, rubbed it to his scalp, then rubbing it with a towel.
This says the musician is “Bollocks”.
“No, Nah, Nah. I used to use sugar hot water before hair lacquer days. And I still couldn’t meet the hair charm.”
But this is what really separates Sir Rod.
The priest is one of the best interpreting singers of Rock and Roll, Rock and Impressive. There is a reason why the covers of the first part of Cat Steven are the deepest or crazy horse.
So it’s a surprise to find out that it has been discovered for her vocals, not for their vocals.
In 1964, the night of fate was at a concert on Twickenham’s Snake Pasta Island, and when he was educated by influential Blues musician Long John Baldry, he was playing drunk from Holwin ‘Wolf’ Wolf’s Smokestack Lightnin.
“As he explained, the platform was walking along the nine when he noticed the clothes that pointed to the pile of rubble and nose,” as he explained.
“And I was playing this spectrum.”
Then, “he wasn’t so sure” about the sound of the song. However, with the courage of Baldry, he began to improve his signature sound.
“I always wanted to make a sound like Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, so I went like this, or he says. “I think I was trying to be different from others.”

Sir Rod started Stardom with Jeff Beck group and faces, greatly inspired by Rolling Stones, on the stage and on stage.
He was so drunk regularly that he would forget his own songs. In the United States, the group received a $ 11,000 invoice (£ 8,000 or £ 54,000 in 2025 money) to throw their rooms in the trash, and received a 40 -year ban on the Holiday Inn hotel chain.
“We just did it because the holiday inns would treat us very badly, like the mess of the world, or he says.
“So we would take ourselves back by breaking down the hotels. We took a few spoons once and cut them into each other’s rooms.
“But we used to make a reservation as Fleetwood Mac, so they would get the crime.”
Like most of his contemporaries, why was he never defeated by drinking and drugs?
“I was never really a drug person, because I always played football and I had to match, or he says.
“I used to use the word dabble. I dived into drugs, but not anymore.”
Perhaps a more destructive power was the singer’s female.
Bond wrote that you were in my heart for Britt Ekland, but two years later they left because of his permanent loyalty.
Alana’s marriage to Stewart and her relationship with Model Kelly Emberg ended in the same way.
“As for the beautiful women, I was looking for a tireless experience,” he wrote in his memoirs.
“I didn’t know how to resist. And also … I thought I could get rid of it.”
In 1990, he thought that he settled after he married Rachel Hunter, but he said he felt that he “lost his identity” in the relationship nine years later.
Divided Hit Sir Rod hard.
“I always felt cold,” he said. “During the day, I started to lie on the couch, to hold a blanket on me and a hot water bottle against my chest.
“Then I knew why they said the heart was broken: you may feel in your heart. I was scattered, almost to the point of madness.”

However, since 2007, he has been happy with Yildiz TV presenter / police officer Penny Lancaster and reportedly renewed his oaths in 2023.
Last week, they celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary with a trip at Orient Express from Paris, where they met in 2005.
Sir Rod says that the family is priority these days.
“I have eight children all together, so sometimes I will wake up in the morning and see all these messages, Stewart, Stewart, Stewart, Stewart… And all kids. Just gorgeous.”
The youngest, Aiden, now 14 years old and became a historian of his father’s work.
“He’s back and listened to everything I did, protect him,” he says. “He knows songs I don’t even remember to record!”

The Glastonbury appearance coincides with the release of a new Greatest Hits album 20th. (“Really?” Gawwwwwd.“
So what does it feel to look at these five -year music?
“Oh, tremendous,” he says. “A feeling you do what you do.
“I don’t see myself as a particularly good songwriter,” he adds. “I’m struggling with him. It takes a long time for me to write a series of lyrics.
“That’s why I don’t think I am a natural songwriter. I’m just a storyteller, that’s all. It’s a humble storyteller.”
Maybe – but this humble storyteller will attract thousands of crowds while playing the Pyramid scene in the afternoon.
“You know, it’s great,” he accepts. “I’ll get a good sound. I’ll enjoy myself. I don’t care what critics think.
“I’m there to entertain my people.”
