Resignation after violent unrest
Oli sent his resignation immediately accepted by the President this afternoon. As the Prime Minister, the fourth period ended suddenly after 1 year and 2 months.
The decision came from the protesters hours, angry at the last events, first opened fire in two – first private house and then the official Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.
As the situation comes out of control, Oli’s Army Chief Ashok Raj Sigdel reportedly called on to organize his army. However, it is said that Sigdel clearly states that Barış can only return if Oli resigned.
It was evacuated by helicopter, the location is not known
After resigning, Oli asked the army chief to provide safe evacuation. A military helicopter was deployed and flew to an unexplained place. Sources claim that Oli plans to leave for Dubai under the excuse of medical treatment, and the Himalayan Airlines plane is reported to be waiting.
From power to panic – in just 24 hours
Only yesterday, Oli was at the top of the political power. It is a dramatic decrease that the analysts escapes today and that analysts say that they have largely fallen on their own.
Oli’s administration was accused of authoritarian tendencies. For example, he referred to the Supreme Court Directive and applied a blanket ban on social media. However, the court only proposed arrangements and supervision – not a clear prohibition.
Despite the participation of big young people in the recent protests, the oli underestimated the movement and believed that strong suppression, including the use of live ammunition on students, would deterre the demonstrators. Instead, only the people inflamed the anger.
When anger exploded on murders throughout the country, Oli tried to mislead the criticism by forcing the resignation of the Interior Minister Ramesh Lekhak. On Monday, the government lifted the social media ban and allowed platforms such as Facebook, Youtube and X to continue operations.
However, the same night, Oli made a statement accusing the “foreign infiltrates” for violence – a back -up movement fueled the protests even further.
Oli, President of the Nepal Communist Party (UML), first became the prime minister in October 2015. The first years in the office were marked with a shift towards China and increasing tension with India.
China and India signed a transit and transportation agreement that broke the monopoly of Nepal’s foreign trade. In May 2020, the government, Nepal, currently under the control of India – Nepal, as part of diplomatic conflicts, Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura’yı – Limpiyadhura’yı published a controversial political map.
A close Chinese ally
Oli’s pro -Chinese stance was evident during his term of office. During the internal political crises, the Chinese officials, including Ambassador Hou Yanqi at that time, actively intervened to keep the government alive. Under Oli, China’s influence in Nepal has grown significantly.
Even during the last uprising, Oli’s government banned US -based social media platforms, but did not ban China’s Tiktok and asked questions about the selective practice.
Oli also supported China’s Kemer and Road attempt and signed several bilateral agreements during the period.
Tense ties with India
Despite India’s efforts to maintain the work relationship, Oli has constantly adopted a hostile approach. Only weeks ago, through Lipulekh Pass, he opposed a Indian-China trade agreement and demanded cancellation.
Oli was scheduled to visit India on September 16, but the rebellion led by Gen Z raised these plans-forced to escape from their own country.
