Salman Khan, one of the largest Indian superstars, met the camera for the first time when he was 15 years old. In 1980, the actor hit the Campa Cola advertisement, where the Gulf of Bengal swim in the waters of the shark. Interestingly, it was also the first Indian advertisement underwater with a homemade equipment.
Kailash Surendranath, who directed the advertisement, remembered the experience with Salman in an interview with The Sell Side Youtube. He shared how he was thrown only two days before the Sultan actor had to advertise on Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The player was recommended by one of Kailash’s team members who saw Salman swim in a neighborhood club. Kailash remembered, “His story saw him, he wanted to impress him, so he dived into the water and went to the other side,” Kailash remembered.
He also shared that he first thought that the actor was just a baby, “I thought he was a child because he was only 15 years old.
Kailash said that Salman could not open his eyes during the shooting: “The first shot with Salman, the whole night of the firing, the whole night, could not face the reflectors, could not open with his eyes. I told the camera to close all the reflexes.”
“We shot it all day on the boat and in the sea, and then the navy men told us, ‘There are sharks here, what are you doing?’ So we all jumped to the boat and changed the place, Ka Kailash said. Almost eight years later, Salman was acting at AISI at Biwi Ho in 1988.
