Kathmandu Mayor Pays Tribute As Gen Z Protests Claim 51 Lives | World News

On Friday, the Mayor of Kathmandu Balen Shah gave tribute to those killed in Nepal’s gene protests and described his sacrifices as a turning point for the future of the country.
“Dear Gen Z, your contributions and sacrifices brought change to the country. Brave martyrs heartedly tribute. Your contributions are invaluable, this will guide the future generations forever.
The Ministry of Health and Population confirmed that 51 people have died so far in demonstrations under the Youth -led youth exploding in Nepal on September 8th.

Nepal Police Co-Sepetes Ramesh Thapa said the dead contained an Indian national and three police staff.
At least 36 bodies at the Tribhuvan University Training Hospital in Maharajgunj, where post -death exams began on Friday. After completing the autopsies, the hospital began to release the bodies of the protesters.
The protests led by the young demonstrators in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Butwal and Birgunj began after concerns about tax revenue and cyber security after bringing a ban on the government’s major social media platforms.
Since then, the authorities have applied a curfew to various cities, including Kaymandu. The Nepal army announced that the curfew on Friday will remain in place until 17.00 and will be re -sent from 19:00 to Saturday.
The Nepal Parliament was terminated late on Friday a few hours after the oath of the former Chief Justice Sushila Carki was swore as the temporary prime minister of the country.
The decision was taken at the first cabinet meeting held at 23:00. The President’s office announced that the new elections will be held on 5 March 2026 to the House of Representatives.

In the early hours of Friday, Carki became Nepal’s first female prime minister in Niwas, the presidential residence in Katmandu.

The Presidential Office said that the new cabinet was assigned to restore the order and prepare the ground for elections.
