A massive fire has engulfed part of Buckeye, Arizona, as flames destroyed nearly 1,000 acres of land. Local residents described the frightening fire as “like a war zone”.

The fast-moving wildfire started around 15:00 UTC (23:00 BST) on Saturday, roughly one mile east of State Route 85, at the intersection of Hazen and Rooks roads. It expanded by more than 300 acres overnight and wind gusts reached 30 miles per hour, and it is currently 0% contained, according to Arizona Family.
