WA Premier Roger Cook set to legislate two new public holidays

The Western Australians will take two extra public holidays a year and the dates of the existing three holidays will be changed with a great movement to modernize the holiday calendar of the state.
Starting from 2028, the mining state will bring the Easter Saturday and the ‘Show Day’ as new public holidays and increase the count of the state from 11 to 13 a year.
The revision is designed to better adapt to the calendar of other states.
Easter Saturday holiday will join the good Friday, Easter Sun and Easter on Monday, and WA will comply with every state and region except Tasmania.
The show day will be the first Monday of September/October school holidays.
Regional Councils will be able to organize the demonstration day in September.
The King’s birthday holiday, which is currently held in late September, will be shifted to the second Monday of June and will be aligned with every state except Queensland.
The Labor Day will be on the second Monday of March to be compatible with Victoria.
During the state election years every four years, avoiding a long weekend election will be the third Monday of March.

Wa day will be moved from the first Monday of June to the second Monday of November.
The WA government will introduce 2025 this week after receiving more than 10,000 applications from enterprises, non -profit organizations, peak bodies, unions and members of the wider community.
WA Premier Roger Cook said the revised holidays were chosen for “better match with the life rhythm in WA”.

“These changes are about modernizing WA’s public holiday calendar in a way that reflects the needs and values of our community.
“It was very important to hit the right balance, and I believe that this new program makes our economy be the most powerful of the nation.
“We thank everyone who contributed to the consultation. For Western Australia, your feedback has played a vital role in shaping a modern, inclusive and practical public holiday calendar.”
