The UK and the United States are preparing to sign a turning point agreement aimed at accelerating the development of nuclear energy.

The movement is expected to create thousands of jobs and England will strengthen energy security.

US President Donald Trump is expected to be signed during a state visit this week, and both sides hopes that he will open billions of locks in private investments.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said that the two nations “built a gold nuclear age” to “put it in the foreground of global innovation”.

The government said that producing more power than nuclear can reduce home energy bills, create business, increase energy safety, and address climate change.

The new agreement, known as the Atlantic Nuclear Energy Partnership, aims to make companies creating new nuclear power plants both in the UK and the USA.

It will facilitate regulatory approvals and reduce the average license time for nuclear projects to only two years.

‘Nuclear Renaissance’

The agreement also aims to increase commercial partnerships between British and American companies and a number of agreements will be announced.

The key between plans is the potential to build up to 12-year-old nuclear reactors and strengthen 1.5 million homes and create 2,500 jobs in the US Nuclear Group X-Energy and the UK Energy Company Center of the United States.

The wider program can be worth £ 40 billion focused on £ 12 billion in the north -east of England.

Other plans include multinational firms such as Last Energy and DP World, working together on a micro -modular reactor on the London Gateway Port. This is supported by private investment of £ 80 million.

Elsewhere, Holtec, EDF and Titax also plans to turn the former Cottam coal fuel facility in Nottinghamshire into a nuclear -powered data center center.

This project is estimated to be worth £ 11 billion and can create permanent jobs in thousands of high -qualified construction work and long -term operations.

Beyond energy production, the new partnership includes cooperation on Fusion Energy Research and relying on Russian nuclear materials by Britain and the United States until 2028.

“Nuclear will give our homes clean with homemade energy and private sector, build it in England, offer good wage, talented jobs for growth and working people.”

And US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, describing the movement as a “nuclear Renaissance”, will increase energy security and meet the global power demands, especially from AI and data infrastructure.

Sir Keir said he wanted England to return before To be “one of the nuclear world leaders”.

In the 1990s, nuclear energy produced about 25% of the UK’s electricity, but this figure fell to 15%, since then a new power plant has been built, and in the next decade, most of the aging reactors of the country.

In November 2024, England and the other 30 countries signed a global pledge to double their nuclear capacities by 2050.

And earlier this year, the government announced an agreement with private investors to build the Sightwell C nuclear power plant in Suffolk.

The nuclear program also includes the first small modular reactors (SMRS) to be built by Rolls Royce, UK’s UK company.
