Although Marino does not explain the stories of other athletes in the Surdyminary Stories campaign, the project gives the opportunity to share important moments and transitions behind the scenes of elders like him. And of course, there is support along the way with any change of life.
The diagnosis for Marino may have shocked, but after hearing what his doctor said, he was positive.
“It can be managed by early detection,” he said. “So go to your doctor and get your normal controls as you always do. Diet and exercise are always big things.”
Marino, who finished the top 10 of all the time and goals of all time after 17 seasons, pointed to a lesson in the sport that helped him since he learned his diagnosis.
“There is always something that I move away from football, athletics and sports: this is to be positive,” he said. “Look at progress and call the answers and see what you can do and how you can.
“Once again, to have this great attitude and do things to look at to look at yourself. Everyone has many examples in their lives, really have.”
Today, Marino continues to exercise to manage the puree and remain loyal to a healthy diet. He was 64 years old on Monday and continues to be proactive in reshaping his lifestyle with the support of his wife Claire.
