‘A grotesque indignity to women’: Reeves scraps rape clause | News

Rachel Reeves referred to the “grotesque” rape clause linked to the two-child limit policy during her Budget speech.
Speaking in the House of Commons on Wednesday 26 November, the Chancellor criticized this policy; This means a parent or carer must prove that a child was conceived against their will in order to receive benefits.
“I will no longer tolerate the odd derogatory use of the rape clause against women. This is inhumane. This is cruel,” he said.
He said he would lift the two-child benefit cap from April, which would increase benefits for 560,000 families by an average of £5,310, according to the OBR’s calculation.
