Forged documents submitted in Thane court for bail in drugs case; FIR lodged

Police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons for allegedly submitting fake documents to a court in Thane district of Maharashtra to secure bail of the accused in a narcotics case, officials said on Sunday (January 4, 2026).
They said the crime took place between November 23 and December 24 last year. During this period, fake documents were presented as genuine in the Thane district court for the purpose of granting bail to some persons arrested in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Kalachowkie police station in Mumbai, an official from Thane Nagar police station said.
“It is suspected that more than one person may have conspired to prepare and submit false documents to mislead the court and facilitate the release of bail to the accused,” he said, without giving details of the case.
Following a complaint by a team member of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Thane unit, the police here registered the FIR on January 1 with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Chapters for cheating and forgery, the official said.
