A volcano in Russia’s Far East erupts for the first time in centuries

A volcano on Russia’s Far East Kamchatka Peninsula exploded overnight for the first time in hundreds of years after a big earthquake of 8.8 magnitude.

According to the staff at Kronotsky Reserve, where the volcano is located, Krashennikov volcano sent 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) to the sky. The images published by the state media showed intense ash clouds rising on the volcano.

The Ministry of Emergency of Kamchatka wrote on the telegram during the explosion.

The explosion was accompanied by a 7.0 earthquake and gave a tsunami warning for three Kamchatka regions. Tsunami warning was later removed by Russia’s Emergency Service Ministry.

The reason for the inconsistency was not clear.
