Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Thursday, October 17, 2025, launched an initiative to raise an army of social media warriors to counter “anti-Bengali” propaganda ahead of next year’s Assembly elections. Attempt “Ami Banglar Digital Joddha (I am Bengal’s digital warrior)” slogan aims to oppose the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on social media.

“Recognizing the critical role that social media plays in modern politics, AITC (All India Trinamool Congress) has positioned this campaign not only to defend Bengal’s cultural identity but also to empower the new generation of digital warriors. The fight for Bengal’s identity is waged online every day,” a statement by the Trinamool Congress said.

West Bengal’s ruling party emphasized: ‘Ami Banglar Digital Joddha’, Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee “aims to put the power in the hands of the people, especially the youth, to lead this struggle”.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Mr Banerjee said: “Our beloved homeland Bengal is increasingly being stalked, humiliated, slandered and vilified by the Bohiragoto Bangla-Birodhi (foreigners against Bengal) Zamindars who have thrived on lies and propaganda in the digital space where the battle is now raging.”

“It is upon us to defend Bengal’s rights, dignity and truth, to fight with clarity and conviction. That is why I am launching ‘Ami Banglar Digital Joddha’, a people-powered, youth-led digital movement to protect Bengal’s identity, promote its truth and take the message of pride and progress to every corner of India and the world,” the Trinamool Congress leader said.

The Trinamool Congress leadership has launched several such campaigns in the past, centered around party president Mamata Banerjee and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Campaigns like ‘Bangla Niger Mein Kei Chai’ (Bengal wants its own daughter) in the 2021 assembly polls and ‘Trinamool Naba Jowar’ (New Wave of Trinamool) led by Abhishek Banerjee in 2023 were huge successes.

Attempt ‘Ami Banglar Digital JoddhaIt is being launched at a time when the Trinamool Congress leadership is facing severe criticism over repeated incidents of sexual assault on women in West Bengal.
