About 170 sheep mysteriously die in Lucknow, police sends samples for testing

The death of nearly 170 sheep under mysterious circumstances near Rashtriya Prerna Sthal in Lucknow has prompted police to send samples for testing to determine the cause of death while authorities assess whether disease, poisoning or neglect was involved.

Charu Khare, founder of Aasra The Helping Hands Trust (NGO), said in her application to Madiaon police station that around 170 sheep died suddenly in the area around Rashtriya Prerna Sthal, days after an event held here.

Ms Khare said at first glance it was not clear whether these sheep died after consuming waste material or whether an unknown person allegedly administered poison to them. PTI. Demanding a comprehensive investigation, the woman said that an autopsy should be performed on the dead sheep to determine the reasons that led to the mysterious death of the sheep.

“If any laxity is found or poison is confirmed to have been administered, strict action should be taken against the accused. Our organization will provide all possible assistance in the investigation,” Ms. Khare said.

He said the incident was “very serious” and “sensitive” and that the possibility of animal cruelty and laxity could not be ruled out.

Madiaon SHO Shivanand Mishra told PTI that the samples have been sent for post-mortem examination.
