ACB Raids HMWS&SB General Manager, Unearths Disproportionate Assets Worth Over ₹5.8 Crore

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau, during a raid on several places belonging to HMWS&SB director general Sangam Anantha Laxmi Kumar on Tuesday, unearthed assets worth over Rs.5.8 crore as per government valuation. ACB also found documents related to land ownership. Sources said the market value of the assets could be much higher.
ACB said it recovered around Rs 1.1 billion in cash, around 2.1 kg of gold ornaments and silver items weighing 9.2 kg. The value of the assets along with the two vehicles was Rs 5,88,55,490.
Kumar is an engineering general manager at HMWS&SB, Division-VIII, Red Hills. Searches were carried out at Kumar’s house and eight other places belonging to his relatives, friends, banami and associates.
Apart from this, the ACB said documents pertaining to 18 acres of agricultural land in Nizamabad and Sangareddy, six open plots, three flats and a house in Hyderabad were seized. ACB said the market value of movable and immovable property can be many times higher than the document value
ACB files disproportionate assets case against 58-year-old Laxmi; The suspect allegedly acquired assets through corrupt practices and questionable means. This is punishable under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The seized documents are being examined and authorities are gathering more details from the accused police officer as part of the ongoing investigation.
