‘Accident’: Olympian Rohan Dennis breaks silence after wife’s death

Olympic cyclist Rohan Dennis made his first public statement after receiving a suspended sentence following the death of his wife.
Dennis was given a suspended sentence in 2023 for the incident that claimed the life of his wife and Olympian Melissa Hoskins.
Ms Hoskins, 32, died when her Volkswagen Amarok Highline crashed with Dennis behind the wheel on Avenel Gardens Rd in Medindie in December 2023.
He pleaded guilty to an aggravated charge of creating a possibility of harm in relation to the tragedy.
Dennis released a four-page long statement on social media Monday night, claiming he never meant to hurt his wife.
“Yes, it was an accident,” he said.
“I loved Melissa and the last thing I wanted was to hurt her.
“Never in my life have I considered physical aggression in any disagreement with Melissa.”
He said allegations in the media suggested Dennis was “a husband who abused his wife”.
“I have ALWAYS opposed any form of abuse against women, especially the woman who gave birth to my children,” she said.
