Actor Timothy Busfield Held Without Bond on Child Sex Abuse Charges

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Emmy-winning actor Timothy Busfield was ordered held without bail at his first hearing Wednesday, a day after he turned himself in to face child sex abuse charges stemming from allegations he inappropriately touched a minor on the set of a TV series he directed in New Mexico.
Busfield appeared remotely via video link from the prison where he was remanded on Tuesday. Whether he remains in prison will be the subject of a detention hearing to be held in five business days.
Albuquerque police last week issued a warrant for his arrest on two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse. A criminal complaint was filed on the grounds that the incidents took place on the set of the TV series “Cleaning Lady”, which was shot in the city.
Busfield, who is married to actor Melissa Gilbert and is known for his roles in “The West Wing,” “Field of Dreams” and “Thirtysomething,” has vowed to fight the accusations. In a video he shared before surrendering, Busfield said the allegations were lies.
