Admiral Krishna Swaminathan takes charge as new Navy chief
He replaced Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who retired from the service.

Admiral Swaminathan was serving as Flag Officer Commander-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.
“The Indian Navy remains vigilant to protect national interests wherever they may be and is very actively deployed in the regional security environment which continues to remain challenging, complex, unpredictable and uncertain,” he told reporters.
“My top priority will be to ensure that the Indian Navy maintains the highest level of operational readiness and combat effectiveness so that it can protect the security and economic interests of the country,” he said.
Admiral Swaminathan said that the Indian Navy is well positioned on the capability development and modernization route.
“It will be my endeavor to sustain the Navy’s growth momentum, consolidate all ongoing programs, scale up where necessary, and sharpen our operational capabilities through the promotion of niche and emerging technologies,” he said.
