Essendon coach Brad Scott cut a serious figure when speaking to the media following the defeat to Richmond, sending the injury-hit Dons to the bottom of the table and the No. 1 pick in the upcoming mid-season draft (a player who could come close to entering the direct selection mix).
“It’s extremely disappointing not to be able to do that and there are things that you think are positive, but it’s hard to talk about positive things because of the situation we’re in right now,” Scott said.
“We are in a situation we don’t want to be in and we have to keep fighting. I know at the end of the day no one cares but given the circumstances the players fought until the end and gave themselves a chance but fell short.”
Scott said Jye Caldwell played the match despite being injured, medical advice was that he could not worsen his injury, while striker Archer May was sent to hospital with rib problems after scoring three goals.
