Yuva Morch stages protest march to GCDA office against alleged backdoor recruitment

The city district committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha took out a march to the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) office in Kadavanthra on Friday, February 13, 2026, protesting the State government’s alleged attempt to regulate casual employees by bypassing recruitment rules.

The march, which started at Manorama Junction, was inaugurated by Yuva Morcha State President V. Manu Prasad. He said the Yuva Morcha would strongly oppose the government’s attempt to sideline institutions like Public Service Commission (PSC) and Employment Exchange and instead introduce party loyalists and their relatives into government institutions through the back door. Mr. Manu alleged that thousands of candidates in the PSC rank lists were betrayed by the government. Yuva Morcha city district president Rinu Harshan presided.

GCDA sources said that a proposal has been sent to the government for recruitment of a few lower category employees, numbering less than ten, who have been working for about a decade. “The authority could not make appointments as there was a ban on recruitment in GCDA for over a decade. Therefore, they were employed as temporary workers. However, the proposal is yet to be approved by the government,” sources added.

The police set up a barricade in front of the GCDA building to prevent the march. Protesters were detained and removed from the scene.
