After calling Salman Khan ‘anti-national’ minister Raghuraj Singh takes a U-turn, says comment was meant for Shah Rukh Khan

Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh has sparked fresh controversy after he backtracked on his earlier comments against Bollywood actor Salman Khan. Just a day after making harsh comments labeling Salman Khan as ‘anti-national’, the minister stated that his remarks were not aimed at Salman but at Shah Rukh Khan.

Minister retracts Salman Khan’s remarks

Raghuraj Singh, also an MLA from Uttar Pradesh, addressed the media on Thursday to clarify his comments. Earlier, the minister had accused Salman Khan of being ‘anti-national’, claiming that the actor loves Pakistan more than India and should move there. He had also urged people to boycott Salman Khan’s films, prompting harsh reactions online and online.

New allegations against Shah Rukh Khan

While Singh retracted his remarks about Salman Khan, he reiterated his criticism of Shah Rukh Khan. He said: “Salman Khan is a good actor. I have said this about Shah Rukh Khan. Whenever Pakistan faces problems, he donates Rs 265 crore and speaks about mob lynchings in India. On the contrary, when Hindus are being killed in Bangladesh, Shah Rukh Khan remains silent. I mentioned Shah Rukh Khan but by mistake I mentioned Salman Khan,” he said, as quoted by India Today.

Not the first debate

This is not the first time Raghuraj Singh has found himself in the middle of a public controversy. His remarks on Holi celebrations had made headlines in the past when he suggested that those who wanted to avoid colors should cover themselves with tarpaulins.

‘Anyone wishing to avoid colors during Holi should cover themselves with a tarpaulin, just as Muslim women wear a headscarf. Men should do the same to protect their hats and clothing. “If they can’t do that, they should stay at home,” Singh said.
