AI isn’t costing anybody their job right now

White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett on Monday played down any negative impact of AI on employment, saying the emerging technology isn’t costing anyone their job right now.
“There’s no indication in the data that AI is costing anyone their job right now, but we’re exploring the future of AI and what that means for the workforce, so we have a big task force on that,” Hassett told CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”
Hassett’s comments come amid a wave of corporate layoffs in the tech sector Amazon, Meta And Seer Some have announced a series of layoffs, highlighting the role of AI in automating work and increasing productivity with lower headcount.

“We are choosing to change the way we work at a time when our business is accelerating and we see the opportunity to move faster with smaller, highly skilled teams using AI to automate more work,” Block CFO Amrita Ahuja wrote at the time of the announcement.
