AI May Replace White-Collar Jobs, Youth Must Focus on Skills and Blue-Collar Opportunities: Revanth
Bengaluru: Amid growing concerns over the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on white-collar jobs, the young generation needs to adapt to changing global trends by acquiring new skills and exploring alternative employment opportunities, especially in blue-collar sectors, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said on Saturday.
Participating in The Hindu Huddle 2026 organized by The Hindu in Bengaluru, the Prime Minister said that AI-enabled technological advancements are changing the employment landscape and young people need to equip themselves with industry-relevant skills to remain competitive.
“Many people worry that artificial intelligence will eliminate white-collar jobs. The alternative lies in blue-collar employment. Young people should focus on acquiring the necessary skills to seize emerging opportunities,” he said.
Revanth Reddy highlighted the Telangana government’s efforts to strengthen skill development through initiatives such as the Young India Skill University and modernization of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into Advanced Technology Centers (ATCs).
The Prime Minister also detailed the long-term development vision of the state under Telangana Rising 2047, which aims to transform Telangana into a $3 trillion economy. He underlined that the government is focusing on prosperity and economic growth through programs that benefit farmers, youth and women.
Claiming that Telangana has undertaken one of the largest recruitment drives in the country, he said the government filled 67,760 posts in 15 months after reforming the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) in line with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). He added that new recruitment notifications have been published recently and 5,000 more police posts will be announced soon.
On agriculture, Revanth Reddy said the government has waived farm loans worth Rs 20.616 billion benefiting more than 25 lakh farmer families, making it the largest farm loan waiver in the country. Citing NCRB data, he claimed that Telangana reported no farmer suicides during 2024-25.
The Prime Minister also highlighted women’s empowerment initiatives, stating that women self-help groups have received loans worth Rs 60,000 Million at zero interest and are actively participating in sectors such as public transport, renewable energy, fuel retailing and utilities.
Explaining the development strategy of Telangana, he said that the government has classified the regions around Hyderabad into CURE (Core Urban Region Economy), PURE (Peri Urban Region Economy) and RARE (Rural Agricultural Region Economy) zones to promote balanced urban, industrial and agricultural growth.
He also said Telangana is positioning itself to compete globally for investments, especially as companies explore alternatives under the ‘China Plus One’ strategy, and announced plans to visit China to study best practices in development and governance.
Reflecting on his political journey, Revanth Reddy said that his years in Opposition helped him understand grassroots issues and strengthened his commitment to public service, especially for farmers, youth, women and weaker sections.
