AIADMK MP demands CBI inquiry into 4 MLA’s resignation, switch to TVK

He also alleged that a huge cash transaction was behind the resignation of four AIADMK MLAs.
His call came a day after AIADMK factions mended fences with the rebel camp led by SP Velumani and accepted the leadership of party General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and agreed to function as a “united and strong force”.

Rebel MLAs visited Palaniswami at his residence on Greenways Road on May 27 and once again expressed their support to the AIADMK General Secretary.
“Background of four MLAs resigning immediately after taking oath so MLAs should be investigated,” the Rajya Sabha MP said on ‘X’ programme. He claimed that their joining the ruling party took place at a time when TVK alone did not have a majority in the Assembly and it (TVK) could not ruin the AIADMK.
“There is information that huge amounts of money were exchanged. The Center should initiate a CBI investigation to protect democracy. The Enforcement Directorate should devote its attention to this case,” Dhanapal added. Four AIADMK legislators – K Maragatham Kumaravel (Maduranthakam Assembly constituency), S Jayakumar (Perundurai), P Sathyabama (Dharapuram) and Esakki Subaya (Ambasamudram) resigned as MLAs and joined the TVK, triggering an intense debate among political parties in the state.

CPI(M) and VCK criticized the development, stating that it was “not a sound policy”.
CPI(M) general secretary P Shanmugam said the members were in a position to face legal action under the Prevention of Defection Act for voting in favor of the TVK government in the Assembly during the floor test on May 13. He said immediately recruiting them into the party would be seen as encouraging their actions.
