The viral TikTok trend known as the “knock challenge” or “knock challenge” has led to the arrest of three Florida teenagers.
St. According to the Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO), the teens were arrested on Nov. 23 for loitering and prowling. One is 13 years old and two are 14 years old.
The viral video of the “challenge” was recorded on the home’s security system. The footage shows the homeowner calling the police to report that someone was “trying to kick in their door.”
In the 911 call audio, the homeowner told police that the men did not have a gun, but that her husband had a gun “in case they came back.”

Deputies responded to the property and located three teenagers dressed in dark clothing and gloves hiding near the victims’ home.
“Show me your hands! How old are you?” a deputy was heard asking three young people.
“Fourteen,” said two of them.

“Thirteen,” said the third suspect as he was being loaded into the police vehicle.
An MP was later heard asking the teenagers if they wanted to “get caught in a crime today”.
“What are you doing here acting like this?” asked the MP.
“I’m just being stupid,” one teenager responded.
“You want to be shot by a homeowner kicking in their front door and they think you came in to kill them?” An officer was recorded asking the teens about their body camera footage. “Because he’ll be right. They don’t even go to jail and you’re six feet underground.”

According to SJSO, the teens went to several homes in the neighborhood, causing damage to the front door of one of the homes.
Three teenagers were arrested and charged with loitering. SJSO said one of the teens was also accused of mischief after the front door of the home was damaged.
“This ‘challenge’ is not a harmless prank. As you hear in the audio recording, the complainants were armed and waiting at the front door to shoot the would-be intruder. Participating in this criminal activity has serious and possibly life-altering consequences,” the department said.
“Parents and guardians, please talk to your children and teens about the dangers of this behavior,” they said. “SJSO will not tolerate any involvement in these challenges. We stand ready to arrest and charge those involved, regardless of their age.”

The “door kicking challenge” went viral on social media; participants (mostly teenagers) aggressively bang on random house doors, often at night, and then run away.
Although reminiscent of the traditional “ding-dong ditch” prank, the challenge resulted in serious property damage and caused police departments across the country to warn teens of potentially dangerous consequences.
